TOSHIBA PABAS115 batteries|Satellite L40 laptop batteries
Cheap PA3615U-1BRM 10.8V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for TOSHIBA PA3615U-1BRM ,brand new, 1 year warranty! Ship to most countries
The
Toshiba Satellite L40-14N's case well reflects the general
characteristics of the notebook. The L40's design is very decent
without any striking colors or design aspects, least of all gadgetry
with light. This notebooks basically tries to attract price-conscious
customers by a decent gray-blue and black keyboard and silver palm rest
areas. The chosen forms are simple, so, they contribute to the L40's
worthy appearance. However ( Cheap PA3615U-1BRS 10.8V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for TOSHIBA PABAS115),
the construction of the case, the lid, and the front edge, make it easy
to have the L40 pegged as Toshiba notebook. For those who are not
really insiders, there's also a highly visible logo on the lid. The
plastic look and feel of the case when using the notebook is also
distinctive. The haptics are rather moderate, however, the potential
buyers of the Satellite L40-14N won't really mind. However, the L40's
case still seems to be passably robust.
The display also left a
good impression. Its flexural rigidity is also passable and its
pressure resistance is good. Also the hinges appear to be robust and
keep the display's position without problems. A ramshorn hook keeps the
Toshiba Satellite L40 closed during transportation.
The provided
ports are user-friendly located near the back of the flanks and at the
back side of the notebook. However, only the most important interface
are provided: Three USB 2.0 ports, VGA out for connecting an external
screen or beamer, modem, and LAN (10/100 Mbit) , and two 3.5mm jacks
for microphone respectively headphones. (Cheap A32-K52 10.8V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS A42-K52)
The
keyboard comes with a typical Toshiba layout. The size of the keys is
standard and the enter key extends over two rows. Despite it is not
obviously structured the keyboard is user-friendly. On the one hand
the surface of the touch pad is user-friendly and the touch pad allows
a precise navigation. However, its position is rather low compared to
the case. Also its buttons could not really convince. It was cumbersome
to use them and their clicking noise was rather loud and nasty. Neither
the horizontal nor the vertical scroll regions are visually labeled.
The
Toshiba Satellite L40-14N does not provide any hot keys. There's only a
switch for enabling/disabling the wireless communication at the front
edge. All other options, e.g., volume control, have to be configured
via standard keyboard by means of FN keys. The display is rather
untypical for the consumer market. Its a display with widespread WXGA
resolution that is 1280x800 pixels, however, its surface is matte. So,
it hardly reflects. Also, the brightness of the screen is overall
positive. Brightness levels of a maximum of 210.7 cd/m2 measured in the
left bottom region and a also still passable average brightness of 180
cd/m2 are alright. However, the illumination of the panel is only 75%,
because the brightness diminishes in the upper corners. (Cheap A42-UL50 14.4V,15.V,8 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS A32-UL20)
Because of the matte display and its passable brightness, the screen of the Toshiba
Satellite L40-14N should also be reasonably fit for outdoor usage.
Although the brightness could be a little bit higher in this aspect,
the non-reflecting surface nonetheless allows trouble-free work even
when the light conditions are only moderate.
Rather narrow
viewing angles are a weakness of the provided screen. Vertically,
you'll face whitening respectively darkening if your viewing angle even
only slightly deviates from the ideal. Horizontally, there is a clear
contrast loss. (Cheap UM09E56 11.1V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ACER um09e78)
While many notebooks are nowadays equipped with
Core 2 Duo CPUs, the technical specification of the Toshiba L40-14N
lists a Dual-Core CPU with a clock rate of 1.46 GHz, which is a rather
low rank CPU today. Although the T2310 CPU is based on Core 2 Duo CPUs
(including 64 Bit support), it is only equipped with 1MB L2 Cache.
Though the clock rate of the CPU is rather low, it benefits from the
dual core technology inherent to dual core processors, which unites
good performance and low energy demand.
Particularly with regard
to the CPU, the Intel GMA X3100, an integrated video chip, is
appropriate. Although it is not equipped with dedicated memory, it can
dynamically use up to 358MB of RAM, if the laptop is equipped with at
least 2GB RAM. However, the reviewed notebook was only equipped with
1GB RAM, so, less memory can be allocated for video processing. (Cheap J399N 14.4V,4 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for DELL K450N)
This
is also the primary disadvantage of the Satellite L40-14N. The
pre-installed, memory demanding Windows Vista operating system uses
already most of the available RAM. Furthermore, also the integrated
video chip needs a part of the RAM. So, only little RAM is available
for applications, which can worsen the performance.
Therefore,
we would highly recommend a memory upgrade, so that the notebook is
equipped with a total of 2GB RAM. Due to a maintenance opening at the
bottom side, it is easy to change memory modules. However, you'll need
to buy two new 1GB modules, because there are only two slots and these
are already occupied by two 512MB RAM modules. If you consider a CPU
upgrade, there are not many options available. The Intel GL960 express
notebook chip set supports only up to 533 Mhz FSB processors. So, most
of the up-to-date Core 2 Duo CPUs (with 667MHz) cannot be used.
The
Toshiba Satellite L40-14N is a typical notebook for text processing,
browsing the Internet, watching movies, and listening to music. The
performance is adequate for these purpose. If you focus on better
performance, you should definitely consider upgrading RAM and CPU.
During
our review the Toshiba Satellite L40 was rather quiet without load
(idle mode) and it's noise emissions stayed low during text processing
and browsing the Internet via WLAN. The built-in hard disk was also
hardly audible. Although the fan sped up under load, the noise level
got never annoying.
The Toshiba Satellite L40-14N is equipped
with a lithium ions battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh (43Wh). The
measured runtime in battery mode ranges from about 80 minutes under
load to a maximum of about 3 hours at minimum energy demand.
Overall
mobility is to some extent feasible. You can expect that the battery
runtime will range from two to two and a half hour in practice. The
Toshiba Satellite L40-14N is an office notebook whose equipment is kept
to a minimum. It is able to comply with minimum demands, but, its main
advantage is the low price (Cheap UM09E36 11.1V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ACER um09e70).
The L40-14N's case is decent. The workmanship is also good. Despite
plastic is used at the surface parts, the stability of the case is
convincing. In general the keyboard is alright. However, during typing
we found that some keys wobble and clatter little bit. We did not like
the touch pad buttons, because to much force is needed to use them and,
furthermore, their clicking noise is too loud. We were pleased that
the display has a matte and non-reflecting surface. Typically only
business notebooks provide such a display. The measured brightness was
also alright. The weakness of this panel is basically its narrow
viewing angles, which could perhaps cause problems during mobile use.
Regarding performance the Toshiba L40-14N is equipped for office work
and adequate for these demands. However, there are hardly any reserve
capacities. Especially the available RAM can soon turn out to be a real
bottleneck. more info: cheap laptop batteries

DELL Inspiron 1750 batteries|J399N batteries
Cheap 0F965N 14.4V,4 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for DELL K450N www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com
Dell
updates their models more or less regularly since the introduction of
the Inspiron 1700 series. In view of performance, the representatives
of this model range coexisted in the shadows of the
performance-orientated XPS notebooks. The Inspiron 9400, a forerunner
of the latest range, was thus one of the last high performance
Inspirons.
The hinges are implemented directly into the back edge of the base unit (DELL Inspiron 1750 batteries£©,
whereby the display sinks behind the device when opened. Thus, the
lower 4 -5 centimeters of the display lid's construction height is
ingeniously hidden from sight and the slim screen with an image height
of 21.5 centimeters fits itself perfectly to the base unit's depth of
27.5 centimeters.
Despite the comparatively generous dimensions
of around 279x417 millimeters, the case makes a mobile impression, to
which the rather slim design and the wedge-shaped construction of the
notebook and the weight short of 3 kilograms contribute. Apart from the
display lid, the device presents itself as colorfully very restrained
with an interplay of black and silver surfaces, and in a matt or
high-gloss version. The display lid can now, if desired, be used to
individualize the notebook. In any case, a black, high-gloss display
lid with the chiming name "Obsidian Black" is included in the price
£¨Cheap VGP-BPL19 7.4V,8 cell 4 cell 2 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for SONY VGP-BPS19£©.
This can be exchanged for a blue ("Ice Blue") or a red ("Cherry Red")
faceplate at a surcharge of 39,00 Euros. All with a high-gloss finish,
though.
The case stability turns out overall satisfactory. The
base unit has a good torsional stiffness, but let's itself be deformed
a bit under point pressure. Slight creaking noises could be perceived,
too. The display also scored only average in this point. Aside from
that, it was noticed that the display lid couldn't completely prevent a
luffing of the display.
A view around the case suffices to
evaluate the given connections. The Dell Inspiron 1750 has the level of
a netbook with three USB ports, VGA and LAN port. The 17 incher can
only differentiate itself by the ExpressCard slot on the right side
edge and the optical drive beside it £¨(Cheap VGP-BPS18 10.8V,11.1V,6 cell 3 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for SONY VGP-BPL18)£©.
The arrangement of the single ports is alright. You have to live
without possibly interesting interfaces such as eSATA, Firewire or a
digital display port.
In contrast to the given connections, Dell
uses the entire space available for the keyboard and also integrates a
numerical block into the case, aside from the standard keyboard unit (sony laptop battery). The single key size turns out quite liberal, and the keyboard layout doesn't have any hidden surprises.
Touch-typing
was possible right away without further ado. A fairly short stroke
length with a very evident pressure point distinguishes the type feel.
We have to point out that the keyboard bends considerably under
pressure, which even leads to a very disagreeable noise when striking
the keys in the area of the numerical block. (asus laptop battery)
There
have also apparently been cut backs in regards to more or less
expedient hot keys. In return, Dell has engaged the F-keys with all
necessary additional functions (WLAN, brightness, etc.), and these as
primary key controls.
The touchpad integrates itself
straightforwardly in the overall design and has a roughened and good
gliding surface. The size of the pad has turned out equally generous.
Both touchpad keys respond well and have a longer stroke length than
found in most other notebooks, which is "Dell-typical".
There
will be two different screens available for the Dell Inspiron 1750. On
the one side, an HD display in a reflective "TrueLife" variation with a
resolution of 1600x900 pixels (as in our test device), and according to
information in the web shop, also a full HD display with a resolution
of 1920x1080 pixels as of September 2009 (ASUS Eee PC Series batteries), equally as a glare edition.
In
our opinion, the lower resolution display already has a good overview
and is perfectly suitable for an all-round notebook use. The full HD
screen is therefore rather more conceivable for users with a high
requirement in regards to desktop and overview, or for full HD fanciers
who want to savor the complete image quality in the configuration with
the BluRay drive.
The maximum assessed display brightness of our
test sample was 197.6 cd/m2 in the central display area. With a
brightness decrease in the upper corner areas down to 161.0 cd/m2, the
screen achieved an illumination of a still acceptable 81.5%. (Cheap UM09B31 11.1V,6 cell 9 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ACER um09a31 ,brand new, 1 year warranty! Ship to most countries) The
built-in screen reached a maximum contrast of an acceptable 176:1 with
a black value of 1.12 cd/m2. We evaluated the color representation
quality subjectively as intense but definitely too cool. Blue tones
have obviously been given too much credence.
The Dell Inspiron
1750 isn't at all suitable for outdoor use. The glare display already
causes unpleasant reflections indoors at adverse light conditions. This
prevents working reasonably with the notebook outdoors.
The
viewing angle stability can't really be called overwhelming either. It
already comes to color changes in the vertical viewing area at small
deviations from the ideal, perpendicular visual axis. The represented
images stay stable longer in the horizontal area, but annoying
reflections turn up very fast here. (Cheap PA3731U-1BRS 10.8V,9 cell 6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for TOSHIBA PA3732U-1BAS) As
already initially mentioned, the Dell Inspiron 1750's performance range
covers office basics up to simple multimedia applications. The starter
alternative with Intel Celeron CPU and GMA 4500M HD is only
recommendable for undemanding users, as the single core architecture of
the CPU comes quickly to its performance limits at multitasking. The
alternately obtainable Intel Core 2 Duo processors up to the T9600 CPU,
available as currently the strongest option in the online shop, do have
significantly more resources. With a surcharge of, believe it or not,
530.00 Euros!! (13. 08. 09) Apparently Dell has made a mistake on the
P8600. The current Intel prices at a purchase of 1k/piece is, in
contrast to this, $209 for the P8600 CPU and $316 for the T9600 chip (DELL Type J130N Rating 11.1V Capacity 60Wh,Rechargeable Li-ion battery).
The prices have been corrected after our publication, and the T9600 CPU
can now be purchased for a surcharge of 230.00 Euros, which we find as
equally unattractive in view of Intel prices. Be that as it may, the
chip should only be interesting for exceptional users who are dependent
on especially high processor performance, anyway. For "Joe Public",
the P8600 CPU represents the upper limit of the interesting value for
money ratio.
In view of graphics, most models are based on
Intel's integrated GMA 4500M HD Graphic solution, which covers simple
office and multimedia applications with the target group in mind.
However, in order to be able to offer an according model for consumers
who prefer a dedicated graphic card, Dell also has the ATI Mobility
Radeon HD4330 Graphic card with 256MB video memory in its range. This
graphic solution is to be classified as starter multimedia hardware,
which moves in about the performance field of the Geforce 9400M G of
its competitor Nvidia. Big leaps of performance shouldn't be expected
with this, but older 3D games can be managed at low to medium details.
Computer game fans will fare considerably better with the XPS line from
Dell in any case, or should even fall back onto the newly integrated
Alienware brand.
Current games like Sims 3, however, already run
in the configuration tested by us at minimum graphic requirements. Even
World of Warcraft or the shooter classic Counterstrike might run on the
notebook, however with only unattractive graphics at most. A graphic
card and CPU update might be wise here in order to keep the refresh
rate in a smooth field for somewhat more worthwhile graphics. Details
can be found in our gaming list of mobile graphic cards.
A gut
feeling will probably be decisive in regards to the apprehended memory
need, as there are two available hard disks with either a capacity of
320 GB or 500 GB (+50.00 Euros surcharge), both with a velocity of 5400
rpm. The built-in 320 GB hard disk from Seagate (ST9320325AS) of our
test sample was within an average field in the HDTune benchmark results
without inconsistencies. Basically, it would of course be possible to
build in other hard disks into the Inspiron 1750, which shouldn't prove
to be too difficult, even for laymen, due to the case's maintenance
flap on the left side. Naturally, the same applies to the RAM, which is
also very easily accessible via an own cover on the bottom side of the
notebook.
It was pleasing to note that the Dell Inspiron
remained agreeably quiet in its main operating field. The notebook
always stayed in an audible but absolutely undisturbing range of merely
32.4 dB(A) without significant load, hence internet surfing, typing
text and such things. Even DVD rendering turned out to be comparatively
quiet with 36.2 dB(A).
We could evoke up to 39.2 dB(A) under
consistent utilization of the core components (CPU and GPU) out of the
notebook. Still a very unproblematic level, which will probably barely
ever be seen in the practice. This can, however, reach a higher level
for fractions of a second as soon as the fan starts up. The Inspiron
1750 doesn't warm up significantly in office mode. The maximum
established surface temperatures didn't surpass 31.3¡ãC on the upper
side and 33.4¡ãC on the bottom side. The notebook did heat up a bit more
with load and reached a maximum of 40.3¡ãC on the upper side.
Contrarily, the bottom side stayed comparatively cool with up to
35.7¡ãC. Basically, the observed temperatures of the Inspiron 1750
always stayed within a frame.
The Dell 1750's sound issue is
taken care of by two speakers left and right above the keyboard. Their
sound might be described as somewhat tinny and lacking bass, but they
are very well suitable for undemanding background music up to a
moderate volume. The given 3.5mm headphone-out delivered a clean
signal, which should allow for connecting a headset or external
speakers. This ought to be taken into consideration, particularly in
the configuration with the full HD display and BluRay drive, as the
sound quality of the integrated loudspeakers otherwise wouldn't be just
to the offered cinema feeling.
Our test device has been fitted
with a 48 Wh battery (6 cell). According to Dell, the Inspiron 1750 can
also be equipped with a smaller 4 cell battery or a larger 9 cell
battery with a capacity of 85Wh.
The Inspiron 1750 could reach a
result of 217 minutes in the test for the maximum possible battery
runtime (BatteryEater Reader's test, min. display brightness, energy
savings profile, WLAN off). In opposition to this stood the minimum
possible battery runtime with load (BatteryEater Classic test, max.
brightness, high-performance profile, WLAN on) was merely 82 minutes.
However,
the practical runtime in WLAN mode would be of interest for the user,
which was 195 minutes at maximum display brightness and a balanced
energy profile, equaling a bit more than three hours. DVD rendering
with the same settings let the runtime sink to a still reasonable 155
minutes, which should suffice for most movies.
The Dell Inspiron
1750 aims primarily at users with the need for a big display in order
to almost completely replace a desktop with a notebook. At the same
time, the target group shouldn't have special requirements on a PC and
principally use basic functions like mail, internet, word processing
and image editing. Moreover, the price, which plays a major role in the
Inspiron 1750, represents an especially important criterion.
The
user profile for potential customers for the Dell Inspiron 1750 is
actually already well portrayed with this. The device doesn't have any
highlights in view of the case, design or connections, but the
compulsory quota is complied to. This also applies to the input devices
like keyboard and touchpad.
As to the display, Dell sets on a
16:9 HD screen with a resolution of 1600x900 pixels in the basic
configuration. However, the upcoming full HD boom will also have
justice done shortly, as a correlating display should be released in
September. In connection with a BluRay drive, the Inspiron 1750 will
turn into a mobile cinema - with exception of sound rendering.
Cineastes should definitely fall back on an external sound rendering
solution, as the integrated speakers aren't able to provide for an
requisite atmosphere.
The performance reserves only cover basic
office applications and light multimedia fare. If the notebook is
equipped with a stronger processor and the equally available starter
graphic card from ATI, the overall price quickly reaches that of the
better suited Studio line.
To be pointed out positively about
the Inspiron 1750, are the low heat and noise emissions and the very
adequate, for a 17 inch notebook, battery life of up to three hours and
more (toshiba battery),
if the 6 cell or even the 9 cell battery have been selected. The
Inspiron 1750 can then also be used for a respectable time away from a
power outlet.
There is no denying the Dell Inspiron 1750 has
been built with desktop use in mind. The 17.3-inch display dominates
this machine, but we were surprised to find that it only weighs 3.1kg,
so if you need to take it on the road with you, bulk aside, it¡¯s not
too heavy to carry.
The big screen is bright and sharp and with
a decent resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels is good enough for most users.
Websites tend to look a little lost, but it does mean you can have
multiple windows open without having to have them overlap. This laptop has a 17.3¡± screen which presents a resolution of 1600¡Á900 pixels. It has a glossy surface. The ports and interfaces housed in this device include 3 USB ports, a VGA port, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, an ExpressCard slot, a VGA connector, a Kensington lock and a 7-in-1 card reader. It has integrated high definition audio as well. A 1.3 Megapixel web camera is present in this laptop too, for allowing video calls. High definition audio is also integrated into this multimedia laptop.

one month zero bright dot guaranty, free two-way standard overnight
shipping and twenty-four hour tech support seven days a week. Plus it
comes with a FREE One Year Accidental Damage Warranty protecting your
notebook from drops, fire, spills and surges.
Pro's: 1.
SMALL FOOTPRINT & LIGHT WEIGHT. The footprint of the laptop is
similar to an 8.5"x11" sheet of paper (just slightly narrower and
slightly longer), and at 3.3lbs, putting it in your briefcase or
backpack is no more burdensome than an extra book or binder.
2. EXCELLENT KEYBOARD. The relatively large "chiclet" keyboard makes for an effortless typing experience.
3. PERFECT SCREEN SIZE. With a 12.1" 1366x768 screen.
4.
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE. Despite the low clock speed, the UL20A's Core 2
Duo is MUCH faster than any Intel Atom. HD YouTube videos play
flawlessly at ~67% CPU utilization, and general performance seems much
smoother than on my old netbook. I especially notice the difference
when scrolling through PDF's, which was often very slow and jerky on my
EeePC. (Cheap VGP-BPS6 7.4V,4 cell 2 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for SONY VGP-BPL6)
5.
EXCELLENT BATTERY LIFE. After 4.5 hours of mixed light web browsing,
email, and PDF viewing, I still had 40% charge left. If the battery
continued to be depleted at that rate, you'd end up with--that's
right--exactly the quoted 7.5 hours! I used Windows 7's "Balanced"
power scheme (not any of Asus's Power4Gear modes). After some testing,
I can confirm that the processor will ramp up to max frequency during
heavy usage with this mode, so there's no reason not to leave it in
"Balanced" all the time.
6. VERY QUIET. Even when using it in a quiet room, it's nearly impossible to hear any fan noise.
7.
WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. Unlike most netbooks, which ship with either
Microsoft's ancient Windows XP or the crippled Windows 7 Starter
Edition, this laptop comes with the full "premium" version of
Microsoft's brand-new OS. (Cheap PA3731U-1BRS 10.8V,9 cell 6 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for TOSHIBA PA3733U-1BRS)
8.
LOOK & SIZE - When I took the ASUS UL20A out of the box I was quite
impressed with its svelte and silky look. Photos simply cannot replace
seeing something firsthand. The light-colored silver brushed aluminum
lid is a fine complement to its ultra thin profile. It weighs only 3.3
lbs and doesn't feel as back heavy as other netbooks/ultraportables
that have 6-cell HP batteries.
9. SIGHT & SOUND - When I powered the ASUS UL20A up for the
first time I was impressed with the display's noticeable increase in
brightness and vivid contrasting colors compared to the many notebooks
I've owned in the past (HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony, Apple &
Gateway covers the gamut). The High Definition LED-backlit screen
really will make a pleasurable improvement in your viewing experience. The
front bottom positioned Altec Lansing speakers have a lot of volume at
least for my ears and the Realtek HD Audio control panel offers 13
equalizer settings to satisfy your personal tone preferences. I keep
the volume at about the 60% mark on my ASUS UL20A because that's plenty
loud for me most of the time.
10. TOUCH & NAVIGATION - The
chiclet-style keyboard is a breeze to type on. The gaps between the
keys provide both room and better viewing of the separate keys,
particularly with the keys being a charcoal black color and the deck
being a contrasting silver color. This allows me to quickly find the
characters I'm looking for when I'm not touch typing. (Cheap A32-F80 11.1V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS A32-F80A)
11.
SPEED & STAYING POWER - This laptop is FAST. I will admit I
installed another 2 gigs of memory that probably helped improve its
speed somewhat. It boots up from a cold start in about a minute and
shuts down in under 10 seconds - QUITE FAST. However, I may open and
close my laptop about 6 times a day and most of the time I just put it
in hibernation mode which backs up your open applications to the hard
drive and then shuts down completely causing no further battery drain
as sleep mode does. Startup from hibernation for me takes around 20
seconds - about a 1/3rd of the time as from a cold start - VERY FAST.
Also, opening and closing programs in day-to-day use is quicker as
well. I didn't do timings here but intuitively I know they open and
close faster.
I use the Balanced Power Setting option offered by
Windows 7 instead of using one of the 4 discreet power levels offered
by ASUS. The Balanced power Plan gives you added horsepower when you
need it and less horsepower when you're just cruising on the highway
(Cheap A32-U80 11.25V,6 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for ASUS A42-M70).
With this setting, I receive between 6 - 7 hours of battery life that
I'm very happy with. Your own mileage will vary based on your own usage
and brightness settings.
12. CONCLUSION: The only initial
shortcoming worth noting is that the Synaptics preloaded trackpad
software was too limiting to suit my personal preferences. However I
was able to install a generic but more advanced Synaptics software
version allowing me to do convenient 2-finger scrolling that provided
the missing piece I was looking for.
Clearly overall, there is a
lot to like with this compact, thin & light. I think the laptop's
12.1 inch size is perfect and I appreciate its light weight, sleekness
and the fact it's always quiet and cool to my touch. The display is
beautiful and bright, the keyboard is a pleasure to type on, battery
life is quite generous and the performance and speed it offers is
worthy of laptops costing more, perhaps much more. If you can afford
the price, the ASUS UL20A-A1 should be on your short list in deciding
what laptop or netbook is the right one for you. (Cheap HSTNN-SB0H 14.8V,4 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for HP 538693-961)
THis
machine is everything and more than what I expected. The technical
specs are all top of the line for notebooks/netbooks of this price
range. I didn't know it came with the "gateway" super fast boot to do
simple things like search the web or play music. So useful!! THis is
the first day using it, so this is only a first impression. But the
design is super sleek, the aluminum lid and silver keyboard top make it
super sexy!! The keyboard is plenty comfortable- I like how it's low to
the desk so my wrists don't have to stretch. My hands have plenty of
room to type (unlike the tiny keyboard on the ASUS 900 netbook series
which I owned and then the screen crashed never to return :(HP ProBook 5310m batteries
). I'm a college student in electrical engineering so this will be very
useful for running intensive programs like MATLAB and other software
plus it's convenient for the usual paper or powerpoint. And it really s
super light! I'd say it's a much better improvement from the teeny
netbook and also not as cumbersome as a giant dell laptop. For the
price, it's a great deal for this sexy machine. It's everything I need
and nothing I don't. I also got it because the speakers were supposedly
special but they are just laptop speakers with some bass, but not much.
They're ok. But otherwise awesome notebook. I don't know about the
actual battery life yet. Will update soon.
I had been reading
the forums about the ASUS UL30A & UL20A & the wireless network
problems that many people complained about. It seemed so wide spread
that I was afraid to buy one & just kept putting it off &
continued using my ASUS EEE PC1005HA P. Finally, I decided to give it a
shot. I only wished I had ordered one sooner. In my house, my 1005, had
"good" reception when I was 40' away & when I was at the college I
work at, the reception was "very weak". The area I'm in at school is
brick walls & metel roofing & I'm about 70' away from the
nearest signal. Now with the UL20A. At home, my signal is "excellent"
& at the school, it's "very good" (Cheap BTY-S31 14.8V,8 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for DELL Inspiron 13Z battery).
Therefore, I can honestly say that I have no wireless problem what so
ever. HOWEVER, the left side of the keyboard is a bit loose & makes
a bit of noise when typing. I can live with it but it would be nice if
it was as quiet as the right side. If you're considering buying one of
these units but are worried about the wireless problem, I would suggest
you take the plunge & check it out for yourself. I love mine.
Very
good performance for such a small, no frills computer (I did add an
extra 2GB of memory to bring it to 4GB). I bought this to replace a
larger Dell laptop I've been using that has a much more powerful
processor, a non-integrated graphics card
http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/article/article.php#Laptop%20Batteries
, a faster hard drive, etc., and this laptop is just as fast at all the
everyday tasks, from booting up, to productivity software, opening
browsers, etc. I haven't tried any graphics-intensive games on the ASUS
and presume it would do worse at those, but you're probably not
considering this laptop as a gaming computer. Also, some of this could
be related to Windows 7, where my Dell is using Vista. But still, it's
impressive that this computer keeps pace.

ASUS Eee PC 1001HA batteries|AL31-1005 computer batteries
This ASUS replacement battery pack is a 5600mAh, 11.25, rechargeable, removable, Li-ion battery designed to work with ASUS AL31-1005.
The Hi-Quality battery meets or exceeds original manufacturer
specifications for the ASUS AL31-1005 Laptop Battery in quality,
durability, and performance. Li-ion batteries
do not suffer from the memory effect. They generally last between
300-500 charge/discharge cycles. All laptop batteries are tested for
100% quality control assurance. This battery for ASUS AL31-1005 includes a one year warranty. We offer a 30 day money back guarantee and fast shipping on all of our products.
Now that 10-inch netbooks are de rigeur, PC makers are looking to
bridge the gap, at least physically, between these secondary PCs and
full-size notebooks, and the most obvious way to do that is by
increasing the screen size to 11 or 12 inches. Somewhat surprisingly,
ASUS is late to this game, having been beaten by Acer, Dell, Lenovo,
and Samsung. However. On the contrary, this 11.6-inch netbook has much
that we like about recent ASUS netbooks¡ªincluding superb battery life
and a stylish design¡ªbut its performance could be better. (Cheap PA3731U-1BRS 10.8V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for TOSHIBA pa3732u-1bas)
The largest member of ASUS¡¯ Seashell family, the Eee PC 1101HA is
an up-sized version of the 1005HA. Though less svelte than the
inch-thick 1008HA, the 1101HA has similar curved panels and a sharp
look. Gone, however, is the uniform body of the 1008HA; no plastic
covers the edges or hides the ports. Its glossy lid, only available in
black, is covered in a scratch-resistant Infusion Finish, which is far
from fingerprint resistant, so you¡¯ll want to keep a cloth handy.
At 11.3 x 7.6 inches, the 1101HA is roughly an inch narrower than the
Lenovo IdeaPad S12, and has nearly the same footprint as the Acer
Aspire One 751h. However, the 751h is thinner, staying at a constant 1
inch thick, whereas the 1101HA tapers from 1 inch at its front to 1.4
inches at its rear. Still, the 1101HA¡¯s six-cell battery is better
concealed (Cheap AL22-703 7.4V,9 cell 6 cell 4 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS SL22-900A), and doesn¡¯t protrude like those on the 751h and S12.
Tipping the scales at 3 pounds (and 3.4 with its power adapter),
the 1101HA is the same weight as the Aspire One 751h, and didn¡¯t put
any strain on our shoulder as we carried it in a messenger bag.
Ports
On the left side of the 1101HA is a USB and VGA port. On the right
side are a 3-in-1 memory card reader, an Ethernet port, two USB ports
(bringing the USB total to three), and headphone and microphone jacks.
The Eee PC 1101HA includes the same comfortable, spacious keyboard that
is found on the 1008HA. Unlike the Aspire One 751h, there are no spaces
between the raised black matte keys, which are more akin to those on
the IdeaPad S12. The keys provide nice, tactile feedback. In a slight
regression to earlier Eee PCs, the right Shift key is undersized;
however (Cheap Studio 1555 11.1V,6 cell 9 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for DELL Studio 1535 battery
,brand new, 1 year warranty! Ship to most countries£©, it is in the
correct position. ASUS should have made better use of available space;
while the notebook is the same width as the Aspire One 751h, the
1101HA¡¯s keyboard is just 10.2 x 3.8 inches; on the Acer, it¡¯s 10.6 x
4.2 inches.
Similarly, ASUS could have used the larger chassis to incorporate a
more spacious touchpad; as it is, the touchpad is the same size (2.5 x
1.5 inches) as that on the 1005HA. Also like its smaller brother and
the 1008HA, the touchpad blends in with system¡¯s deck and is covered
with small, braille-like dots. The pad had very little friction, and
navigating the desktop didn¡¯t require much backtracking.
As with other Eee PCs, the touchpad also supports multitouch gestures;
using two fingers to pinch the pad and zoom in on a Web page in Firefox
was easy, and the image quickly rendered in its new size. The single
mouse button was comfortable for making selections, although we prefer
the Toshiba mini NB205¡¯s larger 3.1 x 1.6-inch pad with dedicated right
and left buttons. (Cheap WU946 11.1V,6 cell 9 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for DELL mt264)
The 11.6-inch, 1366 x 768-pixel resolution LED-backlit display on
the 1101HA allows Web pages and windows to fit well on the screen. A
720p video (¡°Super Speedway¡±) was crisp, and colors were bright.
Unfortunately, playback was less than smooth (more on that below).
Tilting the glossy screen back 45 degrees resulted in a slight glare;
horizontal viewing angles were better. From afar, the glossiness of the
black bezel made it look as if the screen were flush with the frame; up
close, though, you can see that the bezel is slightly raised. http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/article/article.php#Laptop%20Batteries
Above the display, a 1.3-megapixel webcam provided clear images in a
Skype video chat. Our chat buddy was able to see fine details on our
face, and saw little motion blur when we waved quickly. The speakers,
located at the bottom front edge of the system, allowed us to hear his
voice loud and clear from across the room. Similarly, when we listened
to The Killers¡¯ ¡°Shadowplay¡± streamed from Pandora, the sound was loud
enough for a few people clustered nearby, but provided the usual
netbook tinniness.(Cheap PW772 11.1V,6 cell 9 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for DELL km958£©
The latest move is to add an 11.6-inch display, which, while not
currently a threat to popular 10-inch models, still shows a lot of
promise for Netbooks becoming ever more useful to mainstream laptop
users.
Asus' take on an 11.6-inch Netbook retains the slim, attractive
styling of the 10-inch 1005HA, and wisely upgrades the screen to a
higher-resolution 1,366x768 model. Like the first 11-inch Netbook we
checked out, the Acer Aspire One 751h, it uses the Z520 version of
Intel's Atom processor, instead of the more common N270 and N280 CPUs.
In the Acer version, that made the system feel just sluggish enough
that we were occasionally tempted to throw it out of a window. In a
concession to reality, Asus allows for some overclocking of the CPU (up
to 30 percent via the system's BIOS), which brings the performance up
to standard Netbook levels. Still, it's an inelegant workaround, and
makes us eager to check out 11-inch systems due later this year with
more powerful CPUs from Intel and AMD. £¨Cheap hstnn-xb80 11.1V,3 cell 6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for HP COMPAQ hstnn-ob80)
The design of the 1101HA will seem familiar to anyone who has seen
the 10-inch 1005HA version of the Eee PC (one of our favorite
Netbooks). There's a tapered front lip, and a gentle slope to the
system, making it slightly thicker in the rear. There's still enough
room for standard VGA and Ethernet jacks on the sides, but just barely.
Thanks to the slim design and efficient use of space, the 1101
doesn't feel much bulkier than a 10-inch Netbook, which makes it worth
a look, if 10-inch screens are just too small, but you still value
portability and weight above all else.
The slightly bigger footprint allows for a more traditional
keyboard layout, with flat-topped keys that widen slightly at the base.
Only the right Shift keys seem to be unnaturally small. Lacking
quick-launch or media control buttons (except for a touch pad on/off
switch), many of the keys have alternate Fn key functions, the most
notable of which is the space bar, which also controls the system's
power presets. In the 1101HA, Asus' Super Hybrid Engine power software
allows you to overclock the Atom Z520 CPU, which gave us better
performance (which is important because the Z-series Atoms are
typically slower than their N-series cousins). The amount of
overclocking is adjustable in the system BIOS, from 5 percent to 30
percent.
The touch pad is perfectly usable, but the texture on it--made up of
tiny raised bumps--isn't everyone's favorite, although it gives good
tactile feedback as you move across the touch-pad surface. The single
rocker bar that acts as the left and right mouse buttons feels thin and
unsubstantial. We prefer separate, and slightly larger, buttons. (Cheap
d044h 14.8V,8 cell 4 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for DELL Inspiron Mini 9 Battery )
The 11.6-inch LED display offers a 1,366x768 native resolution,
which is the new standard for both 11-inch Netbooks and a handful of
more expensive 10-inch systems (such as the Sony Vaio W). The slightly
larger display, coupled with the higher resolution, makes the onscreen
experience less claustrophobic, and better suited for navigating larger
Web pages or long office docs. It's hard to go back to the lower
1,280x600 resolution of most Netbooks after spending much time with an
11-inch model.
The 1101HA offers a fairly standard set of ports and connections,
including 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, making for a fairly complete
package. If you want built-in mobile broadband hardware, you'll have to
look to systems such as the Dell Mini 10.(Cheap W953G 14.8V,8 cell 4 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for DELL f805h)
While most Netbooks have Intel's N270 (or N280) Atom CPUs, both
11-inch Netbooks we've tested so far use the 1.3GHz Z520 version.
Generally, the Z-series runs cooler and was intended for handheld
mobile Internet devices (sometimes called MIDs). In Netbook use, it can
be noticeably slower than the N-series Atoms, and that's unfortunate
because any additional performance hurdles are especially annoying for
Netbooks, which are already fairly pokey under the best of
circumstances. In the Eee PC 1101HA specifically, performance was
slower than Netbooks with the Atom N270 and N280 in most of our
benchmarks--although it was actually very fast in our iTunes encoding
test.
The mitigating factor in the 1101's case is the built-in overclocking,
turned on by switching between presets in the included power management
software. With overclocking turned on, we saw benchmark scores that
were more in line with typical Netbooks. Obviously, overclocking your
CPU will have an impact on dell battery
life, and generate more heat, although we didn't run into any stability
issues while using the system. You can also underclock the CPU way down
to 1.0GHz to improve power consumption, but we can't imagine being able
to do anything useful in Windows XP like that.

Acer's new Aspire 3935 manages to fit a standard Intel Core 2 Duo
processor, 3GB of RAM, and a decent 250GB hard drive into a slim
chassis with a brushed metal finish . The trade-offs are the integrated
graphics (the standard MacBook offers Nvidia's excellent GeForce 9400
GPU), a touch pad that's merely adequate, and a dearth of any kind of
video output besides VGA.
The eye-catching Acer Aspire 3935 is only 1-inch thick, and the
attractive bronze chassis has a brushed-metal overlay on the back of
the lid. It's not as sturdy as the all-metal construction of the
MacBook, but it generally felt solid and well-built ( DELL Vostro 1220 laptop batteries),
with a couple of exceptions. The plastic optical-drive tray wiggled and
clicked under our fingers whenever we picked the system up, and we
could occasionally hear the hard drive shutter and groan during even
gentle handling. ( Cheap J130N 11.1V,6 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for DELL J130N)
A familiar-looking keyboard apes those found on Apple, Sony, and recent
Dell laptops, with widely spaced, flat-topped keys. It's comfortable
and easy to use, and includes full page-up and page-down keys, which we
always find useful. The touch pad is usable but slightly cramped, and
the mouse buttons require a firm click to register. The touchpad does,
however (Cheap F310J
11.1V,9 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for DELL F310J), include a
handful of multitouch gesture controls, including a photo-zooming
pinch, and two-finger horizontal scrolling. We're fans of touch-pad
gestures, but actually getting the gestures to register was
hit-or-miss, and the small touch pad surface didn't give us a lot of
room to work.
The 13.3-inch wide-screen LED display offers
a 1,366x768 native resolution, which is standard for a 16:9 screen this
size, and slightly higher than the usual 1,200x800 found on most
non-16:9 13-inch laptops. The display was bright and easy to read, but
also very glossy, so be warned if stray light reflections bother you.
(Cheap X284G 11.1V,9 cell 6 cell Laptop Batteries,battery for DELL X284G)
The Acer Aspire 3935 performed on par with other mid-priced 13-inch
laptops, such as HP's AMD-powered Pavilion dv3z, and Gateway's Gateway
UC7807u. None were a match for the more expensive MacBook, but in the
13-inch category, Dell's high-end $2,000 Adamo was far behind in each
of our benchmark tests, thanks to its slower ultra-low voltage CPU
(although that same chip helps the Adamo be arguably the slimmest
laptop on the market today).
In anecdotal use, we found the Aspire 3935 well-suited for everyday
multitasking, including Web surfing, media playback, and working on
office documents. The integrated Intel graphics aren't going to do much
more than play casual Web games--another area where the MacBook has an
advantage, with its Nvidia GeForce 9400 graphics. (Cheap HSTNN-CB72 10.8V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for HP COMPAQ HSTNN-CB72)
The Acer Aspire 3935 ran for 3 hours and 2 minutes on our video
playback battery drain test, using the included four-cell battery.
That's decent for a 13-inch laptop, but a few models, such as the HP
dv3z and the 13-inch MacBook, can run for much longer. Our battery
drain test is a grueling one, so you can expect longer life from casual
use. Acer also includes a button labeled PowerSmart above the keyboard,
which automatically dims the display and changes the color scheme to
Vista basic, along with a few other power profile tweaks. It's nothing
you can't do yourself manually, but the one-button operation is handy.
Still can't decide which of Acer's ample number of shiny new netbooks /
laptops has caught your eye specifically? Here's some more details on
two of those models, including availability, to help you out. First up,
the 13.3-inch Aspire 3935 is available as now for just a smidgen under
nine Benjamins. With that you'll get a golden brown metal chassis, one
inch thick and weighing in at 4.18 pounds with a frameless, 16:9
CineCrystal LED backlit display showing a 1366 x 768 resolution. Other
amenities include a full-size keyboard with touch-sensitive hotkeys,
multi-gesture touchpad, webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, a bio-protection
fingerprint reader (Cheap HSTNN-IB75

802.11 a / g / draft-N, and a 4-cell Li-ion battery. Spec-wise, we've
got a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7350 with 4500MHD graphics, 8x DVD writer,
3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, and Vista Home Premium SP1. If you're looking for
something with a little more horsepower, the 18.4-inch Aspire 8935G
Gemstone PC's rocking an Intel Core 2 Duo, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670,
1080p resolution, 4x Blu-ray writer, a 500GB HDD upgradeable to 1TB,
and most of the niceties from 3935's spec sheet. For consumers who
seek ultra-slim, ultra-light elegant notebook styling with dynamic HD
entertainment functionality, the Aspire 3935-6504 features a 13.3-inch
frameless, widescreen CineCrystal? LED display. The edge-to-edge LED
backlit technology design has 1366x768 pixel resolution and 16:9 aspect
ratio, for increased visual quality in low-light situations and for
efficiently depicting bright, lifelike HD images.
The full-featured notebook PC is less than one-inch thick and is housed
in a rich, golden brown brushed metal chassis that weighs only 4.18
pounds. The Aspire 3935-6504 utilizes unique design elements including
the Acer FineTip full-size keyboard with large key caps and increased
key gaps for an effortless typing experience ( hp laptop battery),
along with touch-sensitive hotkeys for easy access to frequently used
functions. Users can conveniently back-up important data in one touch
via the Back-up Button, while a single touch to the Acer SmartPower
Button will save power to extend battery life.
For easy PC
navigation, the Aspire 3935-6504 utilizes a Multi-Gesture Touchpad,
where users can pinch, flick and swirl their fingers across the
touchpad for intuitive navigation. It allows users to scroll, zoom in
and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more. The
notebook's touch-sensitive multimedia panel allows users instant

Stay unplugged longer with the new DELL Alienware M15X 7800mAh 5200mAh Li-ion dell Inspiron Battery.
This 10.8V Rechargeable Li-ion battery can replace the original system
battery or be used as a spare. DELL computer batteries life (and
recharge times) will vary based on many factors including screen
brightness, applications, features, power management, battery
conditioning and other customer preferences.
Alienware announced a compact high performance notebook a long time
ago. But although it was already available in the USA for quite a
while, it is just now finally coming to Europe. The Area-51 m15x
notebook makes Alienware the first producer that offers a 15" gaming
notebook with a 8800 GTX graphics card and Intel Core 2 extreme
processor. This is also the current maximum of what's possible in the
compact multimedia class. Compared with other Alienware models we
tested so far, the Area-51 m15x looks very simple and discreet ( fujitsu battery),
at least as long as the various LED lights aren't activated. The
display lid and the base unit are kept in a silver-grey plastic frame.
We especially liked the seamless workmanship of this part, which
creates a compact impression of the notebook.
The geometrical and simple shape perfectly fits the colour scheme. The
most outstanding details are firstly the two openings on the left and
right of the keyboard, which contain the loud speakers, and secondly
the central display hinge. But the Area-51 m15x becomes the center of
attention only after turning on the LED illumination. The LEDs are very
effective due to the unobtrusive case design, (Cheap FPCBP216 10.8V,3 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for FUJITSU FPCBP216)especially if other light sources are dimmed.
One can tweak the illumination of the Area-51 m15x with the Alien
FX Lightning software in the command center. Various different colours
or separate areas can be chosen for the light effects. The laptop
distinguishes different areas of illumination, like the light pipe
around the display in the shape of a small gap that emits light, the
illumination of the hot keys, as well as the touch pad and keyboard.
Our test sample had a keyboard without illumination however.
Another interesting gadget to personalise the m15x is the aluminum
plate on the bottom of the notebook, on which up to 23 characters
chosen by the soon to be owner ( FUJITSU LifeBook M2010 laptop batteries), are engraved by laser. The text is translated into alien characters and also added to a foil which is put on the touch pad.
Ah yes, don't forget the well known alien face on the display lid,
which is illuminated as well. It starts to pulsate if the notebook is
put into standby mode, which is also called "breathing" by Apple. The
Alienware m15x unfortunately fails to do this smoothly, so that it
looks more like it is clearing it's throat.
We also had to clear our throat on closer inspection of the case, which
makes a compact and robust impression at first due to the design, but
clearly disappoints in the actual test (Cheap F310J
11.1V,9 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for DELL F310J). Holding the
notebook, lifting it, or applying a bit of pressure, always results in
creaky noises, which seem to be the norm with the m15x. Especially bad
in this regard are the display and display hinges.
Although
the display is with 12 millimeter not exactly slim, it seems to be very
susceptible to any kind of pressure or twisting. Just opening and
closing the display is apparently already too much for the notebook and
results in loud creaking and squeaking. Furthermore, deformations and
even colour changes on the display are noticeable. (Cheap a32-f82
11.1V,11.25V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS a32-f82 ,brand new, 1 year warranty! Ship to most countries)
The hinge itself failed to make a good impression as well. Even though
the resistance while adjusting the display is acceptable, the noise it
creates and the wobbling of the display after it is put into the
desired position is clearly not. Considering it is a compact notebook,
which can be carried around, those problems are rather serious.
Especially the creaking noises while working with the notebook
overshadow the impression of the m15x. The only average haptics of the
plastic parts also fail to change this fact. The low quality is
particularly hard to understand if one considers the current price of
the Alienware Area-51m15x in our configuration of 2.799.- Euro.
(Replacement battery for ASUS A32-U80, 11.25 voltage, 5600 mAh, 6 cells, Li-ion Laptop Batteries)
The front and the back side of the notebook stay clear of connections.
On the front right side of the notebook is a card reader (7in1)
followed by an ExpressCard slot (54mm). Both slots are closed by well
shaped flaps. Rubberplugs or plastic dummies are thus unnecessary.
Further back is a HDMI port, which allows a full digital transfer of
image and video data. After that comes an USB 2.0 port and a Firewire
1394b (9-Pin) interface, which is a bit unusual for notebooks.
Completely at the back is a Kensington lock.
The left side of the m15x is occupied by the power supply, LAN port,
two USB 2.0 ports and audio connections (microphone, earphones). All
those ports were located at the back half of the left side, which
concentrates various cables and prevents annoying cable tangle. The
Area-51 m15x has thus not only an extensive enough interface equipment,
but also very good alignment of the available ports.
The DVD multi drive is located on the left side on the front. The
SmartBay slot could also be equipped with another optical drive, like
for example a Blu-Ray drive . Another possibility would be to put an
additional hard disk or SQU-724 battery into the SmartBay slot of the m15x.
As opposed to other drives, the Optiarc AD-5540AD doesen't have a
reject button on the drive itself. Instead, it can be opened with the
key combination FN+F8.
The m15x has also various integrated communication modules. The gaming
notebook offers a Gigabit Ethernet module made by Broadcom for fast
transfers over local networks, as well as a wireless LAN card by Intel,
standard4965AGN. A Bluetooth 2.0 module provides wireless communication
with various extra devices.
Alienware offers only a Kensington lock regarding security, but at
least this allows to fix the notebook to a table or other heavy items
on LAN parties, to prevent thieves from stealing the notebook.
Included in the shipment of our Alienware m15x test sample was a small
leathercase containing the rather short user manual, a thin protection
cover, recovery and driver CD (Cheap UM09A75
11.1V,6 cell 9 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ACER UM09A75), as well
as Nero 7 Essentials. Further included was a mouse pad in Alienware
design made by Func, which turned out to be very suitable for gaming in
our tests (in combination with a Logitech MX510 mouse).
The Alienware Area-51 m15x offers a standard keyboard without
additional number pad, which is not surprising for a 15.4 inch
notebook. The lack of layout experiments, 18x18mm standard keys and the
generous enter and space keys, make typing intuitive and adjustments
unnecessary.
Typing on the keyboard, which offered a soft stroke and good
resistance, was very pleasant as a result. Another positive feature is
the quiet typing. The keyboard was also robust, even punctual pressure
didn't cause much deformation of the keyboard unit, which is especially
handy when playing fast games that often lead to strong pressure on
single keys in the heat of the moment. (Replacement battery for ACER UM09A31, 11.10 voltage, 7200 mAh, 9 cells, Li-ion Laptop Batteries)
The individual keys seem a bit overloaded, because of the coloured
border every key has, which emit light on models with integrated
keyboard illumination (38.- Euro extra).
The touch pad is optically very well integrated into the look of the
Alienware m15x. It is evenly built into the surrounding case and offers
a single continuous touch pad button. The main weakness of the pad is
the smooth surface. Alienware included two stickers with rough surface
with the notebook that can be put on the touch pad, in order to improve
handling. Most users will probably prefer the rough surface, which
leads to the question why the pad wasn't equipped with that surface
from the beginning. Compared with the original surface, handling was
clearly better after putting the sticker on the touch pad.
The single touch pad key was apparently also produced to please the
eye, and not to be user friendly. The continuous button has a very
large dead area in the middle (about a third of the total width!), and
can only be pressed properly on the left and right edges (Cheap AL31-1005
10.8V,11.25V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS AL31-1005). We
thus highly recommend to use an external mouse, which should be the not
a question for a real gamer anyway.
A touch sensitive panel
above the keyboard of the m15x provides additional control of the
notebook. The term "touch sensitive" is in our opinion not very
accurate however, because the symbols require the finger to rest on
them for a rather long time to actually react.
Especially annoying in this regard is the adjustment of the volume. A lot of patience is required to get the desired volume.
Alienware currently offers two different displays for the 15.4 inch
models. They differ in supported resolution and type of display
surface. The choice is between a 1440x900 pixel WXGA+ display with
ClearView technology (glossy surface) and a 1920x1200 pixel WUXGA
display with matte surface and HD compatible resolution. ( ASUS Eee PC 1101HA laptop batteries)
Our test sample was equipped with the high resolution WUXGA display
(LPL1801) and was instantly loved because of it's non reflecting
surface. This is unfortunately rare, since multimedia notebooks hardly
ever offer matte surfaces. It is thus impressive that Alienware went
against the common trend, and offers their high end display with an eye
friendly surface.
Fears that the matte display might not be able to compete with glossy
displays regarding brightness, colours or contrast, quickly disappeared
after a couple of tests. The WUXGA display achieved a very good maximum
brightness of 191.3cd/m2 in the central display area. The illumination
of the panel is with 87.6% significantly above average.
The measured minimum brightness (black value) of the display was
0.37cd/m2. This, together with the maximum brightness of 191.3cd/m2,
resulted in a maximum possible contrast of good 517:1 . Subjectively,
the display is always sharp and with good contrast. (Cheap A32-F80 11.1V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS A32-F80 ,brand new, 1 year warranty! Ship to most countries)
Rather untypical for a gaming notebook, but possible nonetheless, is
the outdoor use of the Alienware Area-51 m15x . The dim display surface
and the high brightness of the display allow outdoor usage with proper
image quality.
The dim WUXGA display offers enough viewing angle stability in vertical
and horizontal direction for a sufficiently large working area. The
image does hardly change even if the horizontal viewing angle is very
flat. Deviations from the optimal viewing angle in vertical direction
have a bigger effect however, and overshadowing of the display happens
quickly if the viewing angle gets flatter. But this shouldn't be much
of a problem in stationary use. (Cheap AS09C71 11.1V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for GATEWAY AS09C71
)
Alienware praises the Area-51 m15x to be the first 15" notebook with
Geforce 8800M GTX graphics. This is correct, but it is very likely that
other producers will follow soon. Clevo for example, exhibited a 15.4"
model at the last Cebit, which is planned to be equipped with a Geforce
8800 graphics card. We look forward to a direct competitor to the m15x,
but it will play in a separate class until then.
The hardware of the Area-51 m15x reads like the wish list of a gamer to
Santa Claus: nVIDIA Geforce 8800M GTX with 512MB GDDR3 video memory and
Intel Core 2 Extreme processor with 2.8GHz and 6MB L2-cache are the
fastest possible configuration of the m15x. This not only marks the top
components of the m15x series, it is also the maximum possible
performance of 15.4" notebooks. No series notebook is currently
available that matches the performance of the Area-51 m15x.
A first glimpse at the impressive performance gives the 3D Mark
benchmark tests. 15805 points in 3D Mark 05 and 9217 points in 3D Mark
06, catapult the Alienware notebook to the top. Even the former top dog
in the ranking, the Dell XPS M1530, has to content itself with the
second place far behind the m15x.
This result is not very surprising, and a comparison with various
all-round multimedia notebooks seems almost pointless . The Alienware
Area-51 m15x is a high performance machine, which would sacrifice
everything in favor of performance. This idea was also applied when
choosing the hard disk : A Hitachi (HTS722020K9A300) with a speed of
7200r/min and a capacity of 200GB. The most outstanding feature is of
course it's performance. In the HDTune test it achieved excellent
transfer rates of up to 70.5MB/sec and an exceptionally low access time
of only 15.2ms. This result makes the hard disk one of the best of it's
class.
The m15x uses both available memory slots for RAM, which can hold up to
4096MB and supports dual-channel mode. Our test sample contained two
1024MB DDR2 PC5300 memory modules. Additionally, a Intel Turbo Cache
module is available.
Apart from all the pushing to achieve maximum performance, the m15x
also has a very interesting feature: The user can switch between the
Geforce 8800M GTX and an integrated Intel graphics chip (BinaryGFX), by
simply pressing the key combination FN+F7 ( lenovo laptop battery).
Even though this makes a system restart necessary, it gives all the
benefits of an integrated graphics card, like significantly lower
temperatures, and thus quieter fans, as well as much lower energy
consumption
The performance of the test sample convinces in
the PCMark 2005 benchmark test as well. The m15x moves with 7669 points
ahead to the top of the multimedia class once more. But that is not
all. Even performance giants like for example the Dell XPS M1730 (still
with Merom processor) are beaten by the m15x in this test. The main
reason is the powerful Core 2 Extreme processor, which is fully
utilised in this test.
This result is supported by the Cinebench R10 benchmark test. The
Alienware Area-51 m15x manages top results in rendering and shading
again. Actually, the Alienware m15x could also be used professionally
for graphics and calculation intensive applications, but it's main
strength will always be games.
Probably the most important advantage of the Alienware m15x is the
performance when running current games - at least this is what
Alienware says. We obviously take this announcement as an invitation to
immediately test Crysis performance on the Alienware m15x.
The Area-51 m15x provided a good impression of it's performance. With a
resolution of 1024x768 pixel and medium details, it achieves about 45
frames per second (fps) in the benchmark. Increasing the resolution to
high details lets the result drop to below 30 fps. When playing the
first single player level with 1024x768 and high details, it ran with
20 - 40 frames per second . The game was playable, but had frequent
frame drops.
The m15x also achieved good results in the performance test of the real
time strategy game World in Conflict with medium details (DirectX9). It
managed an average of smooth 47 fps even on the maximum resolution of
1920x1200 pixels.
Changing to DirectX10 on the other hand, puts even the well equipped
Alienware m15x under pressure. While it manages acceptable 31 frames
per second with a 1024x768 resolution, it drops to 19 fps in native
resolution (1920x1200).
This result changed in the practical test of a multiplayer game (2 vs.
2, map Seaside), which was sufficiently playable with 20-40 fps,
despite DirectX10 and native resolution. But for LAN battles with more
opponents it would be a good idea to reduce the resolution or detail
level.
A mandatory test candidate is of course also the currently very popular
multiplayer first person shooter Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare . The
practical test of the first single player mission with a resolution of
1024x768, anti-aliasing deactivated, other settings on default,
resulted in frame rates between 50 and 90 fps.
An increase of the resolution to 1920x1200 pixel reduced the frame
rates slightly to 40-90 fps. But even with those settings the game was
smoothly playable and looked excellent.
The Alienware Area-51 also successfully passed the Unreal Tournament 3
practical test. The observed frame rate (map Heat-Ray, details standard
- level3) with a resolution of 1024x768 and native resolution of
1920x1200, stayed between 60-65 fps. Only an increase of the details to
level 6 (world and textures), slowed the frame rate a bit down to 40-60
fps. But the game is still smoothly playable with those frame rates.
Our last test sample was Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance. In the
practical test of the real time strategy game we played a four player
multiplayer game with a resolution of 1024x768 and medium details, and
observed a frame rate of 25-30 fps. The game was even with the maximum
resolution of 1920x1200 pixel with 20-25 fps playable.
Note: Various forums discuss currently about a Bios update of the m15x,
because the first m15x notebooks that appeared in the USA had
apparently problems with heat sensors, which caused performance drops.
Our test sample already had the Bios version vX30P3, which should fix
the issues and we also didn't notice anything during the game tests
(DELL F310J
Notebook Battery). Just in case some users still have problems,
Alienware offers another Bios update to version X32RC1. For more info
and download, go here.
Depending on how the Area-51 m15x is
run, it has two completely different noise levels. In office mode with
little load it is possible to run it virtually silent. Two options make
this possible: Either the stealth mode, which lowers performance of the
m15x and can be activated by pressing a hot key above the keyboard, or
by switching from powerful Geforce graphics card to the slow integrated
Intel graphics chip. These options significantly reduce the noise level
during undemanding tasks like internet surfing or typing, to quiet
32.8dB(A), which is an excellent result.
This quietness quickly changes to loud fan noise under load without any
attempt to reduce performance and activated 8800M GTX graphics. The
noise level of the m15x ranges, depending on game or application, from
43.3 dB(A) up to a maximum of 50.6 dB(A) if both cores and graphics
card work at the limit. The fan noise can be described as unpleasant
loud at this point. But gamers will probably be able to ignore the fan
screaming, considering the performance the notebook offers.
The surface temperature also reflects the performance of the Area-51
m15x. Although the upper side of the base stays with 43.4¡ãC at
reasonable levels, the situation looks different on the bottom side
around the central area, which heats up to a very hot maximum of 51.4
¡ãC. It is thus important to always put the notebook on a flat and solid
surface to guarantee proper airflow, especially if the notebook is
often under load.
The m15x offers two speakers, located on the left and right above the
keyboard, which produce clear sound. Although we wished for a bit more
sonority and more bass for music replay, the sound quality is
sufficient.
Although mobility isn't so important for a gaming notebook like the
Alienware m15x, it is actually capable of mobile use away from the
power plug as long as only undemanding applications are used.
Important in this regard, apart from acceptable case size and weight, is the DELL Alienware M15X laptop battery
life. The m15x has an ace up it's sleeve that helps a lot - the option
to switch to integrated graphics. The test of the maximum possible
battery life (BatteryEater readers test) shows the difference: While
the notebook runs for only 138 minutes with activated Geforce 8800M GTX
graphics, despite having all energy savings activated (energy saving
profile, stealth mode activated, minimum display brightness, WLAN and
Bluetooth deactivated), it manages 223 minutes with the same settings
after switching to integrated graphics.
Battery lifetime under load with dedicated graphics card (BatteryEater classic test) is only 77 minutes.
Acceptable is the laptop battery
life when watching DVD's. The m15x runs for 124 minutes with integrated
graphics card, and is thus able to show a complete movie with average
length. Even better is the result in the practical WLAN test
(integrated graphics, energy saving mode, brightness level 6 out of 7),
with a battery life of 170 minutes.
Alienware makes with the Area-51 m15x a big step forward in the compact
gaming segment. Somebody who is looking for high performance among
15.4" multimedia notebooks will quickly notice a distinct lack of
competition for the m15x .
The biggest weakness of the Area-51 m15x is the case of the notebook.
The plastic parts don't convey high quality, neither regarding feel of
the surface nor stability , not to mention the constant creaking noises
when handling the notebook.
Although the m15x only offers a small amount of ports, everything a
gamer needs is available. Especially the alignment of ports impressed
during the test. So did the excellent keyboard, which is ready for a
successful gaming career.
A strength of the Alienware Area-51 m15x is certainly the display,
which offers a high resolution, good brightness and illumination, as
well as excellent contrast and a matte surface, which prevents annoying
reflections.
There is not much more to say about the performance. An increase in the
15.4" class would currently only be possible, if a producer managed to
put two Geforce 8800M GTX graphics cards in one 15.4 inch notebook,
which seems highly unlikely for several reasons ( hp mini series laptop battery).
The m15x offers thus awesome gaming performance, although a reduction
of the detail levels in DirectX10 games might be necessary, if one
wants to play at native resolution.
Another important point
that speaks for the m15x is the low noise level in office and internet
mode, because the notebook offers the possibility to switch between
dedicated and integrated graphics , which significantly reduces the
noise. This obviously doesen't help in high performance mode, which
results in a very loud notebook when using demanding programs.
The integrated graphics chip also helps to extend the battery life of
the Area-51 m15x to acceptable levels, which makes mobile usage
possible.

Power efficient solution based on Intel® AtomTM processor (HP HSTNN-LB0C laptop batteries) Bought it refurbished 3 weeks ago but it looks like new, untouched. I am very happy with it. The main reason I chose the A90 over the mini9 is the oveall black design. It would be perfect for me if the top lid is matte instead of glossy on the outside and the panel is anti-glare. The netbook is small but solidly built. It never reflects a flimsy toy-like image like other netbooks of similar size. The battery lasts about 3.5 to 4 hrs. Also, it's my first time I switched to Linux from Windows. There was a lot of apprehension about whether I could do this or that as I used to in Windows. The shipped Ubuntu 8.4 put all of it to rest. I can play games on the internet while listening to all my favorite windows songs. The screen resolution is crisp and graphics is beautiful. I could have chosen mini 10 or 11 or 12, but I want only 9" screen size for small size and only SSD for quiet operation. Now that I have moved all my data from Windows (Replacement battery for HP HSTNN-CB0D, 11.10 voltage, 2500 mAh, 3 cells, Li-ion Laptop Batteries), I'll never look back at Microsoft. With the help from the Ubuntu and Linux forums, I installed Truecrypt to safeguard my data and set up to auto decrypt my home directory at boot up. Great little product. Ships with Linux. Small and lightweight so one is less likely to drop it. But if you did, it would not hit the ground as hard and would likely not break as easily as a full-sized laptop. No hard drive or optical drive is a plus in that consideration as well. And if there were catastrophic damage dealt to this machine ( Cheap AL31-1005 10.8V,11.25V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ASUS AL31-1005), you're only out a few hundred dollars. Even though it ships with Ubuntu 8.04 while 9.04 is the current available, I really like the OS. Very clean and reliable with fast startup and response times. I recommend this to anyone looking for a portable computing solution (ASUS Eee PC 1101HA laptop batteries). Apart from not having an optical drive with which to play DVDs, I believe this would easily meet and exceed any typical user's requirements. I am planning on outfitting several of my customers with these machines for their field personnel. The performance and small form are make this a superior choice over standard laptops at a fraction of the cost. I really like my Dell Vostro A90. It is great for traveling. I leave my powerhouse at home and take this little guy everywhere. I did upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 though, instead of the 8.04 it defaults to. I tried 9.04, but there are major issues with Intel graphics and that version. (ASUS Eee PC 1005HAB laptop batteries) My only gripe is the wireless chipset. I can't understand why this machine is shipped with Broadcom wireless instead of Intel. It makes it difficult to install custom Linux distro's because it requires the use of restricted drivers. I have bought many many Dell computers over the years, Vostro, XPS, Latitude, and Precision machines. Without doubt the A90 is one of the most fun and unique computers that I have ever owned (ACER UM09A41, 11.10 voltage, 4800 mAh, 6 cells, Li-ion Laptop Batteries). There are limitations to this netbook, but if you recognize those limits and adjust your expectations, then this is going to be a wonderful system. LIMITATIONS: (1) Processor - the Atom processor isn't the fastest but it does the job. The lack of processing power is noticeable when installing software or moving large files. The SSD is fast enough, but the processor has difficulty with large chunks of data. (2) Keyboard - a lot of people have talked about the odd placement of the apostrophe key. It is annoying but touching typing can be done. Many people ordered the US-Intl keyboard from Dell which has a better layout. (3) Storage - 16GB is okay but a 32GB drive seems to be the sweet-spot on this device. (4) dell Battery - it would be really nice to have a larger battery option for long flights. (5) LCD - the 1024x600 screen resolution can be a problem with certain applications and it feels a little cramped vertically. (6) The keyboard size took some getting used to, but didn't take long. (7) Very small space, mine came with 8GB HDD (ACER UM09B73 laptop batteries), yours will come with at least 16GB, which is barely enough room for OS and Office, AV, etc. The keyboard is very cramped and the screen size is a bit on the small size. ADVANTAGES: (1) Physical size - the miniature size and light weight of the device is probably its greatest strengths. It is great to slip it into a case, backpack, or just walk around with it in your hand, and because of the size it seems like you take it wherever you go. (2) Battery - the battery life is pretty good, especially if you¡¯re mindful. (3) Memory - being able to use 2GB is perfect with Windows 7 (Cheap UM09B31 11.1V,6 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for ACER UM09A31). (4) Upgrading - one of the greatest attributes is being able to easily upgrade the SSD, memory, and wifi. And because of the components used, you can easily install Ubuntu, XP, Vista, Win 7, or Mac OS without any problems. (5) Expandability - the A90 is easily expandable due to the 3 USB ports. I have also found the SD card slot useful for using Readyboost in Windows and for connecting to digital cameras. (6) Quietness - because the machine is fanless and has no moving hard drive, the machine is essentially silent. Overall I¡¯ve been very satisfied with my A90. I liked the all black look when compared to the Mini 9. The LCD produces very good colors and is extremely sharp. Because the processor is a little weak, high-definition video can be a problem (DELL Alienware M17X laptop batteries). Though if you use the right software and the video uses the right codec then it can be done. The trackpad and buttons are fine. I wish there was a hard drive activity indicator because it¡¯s difficult to tell when the silent SSD drive is working heavily. The Bluetooth and webcam work fine. Sound is decent, if a little soft. It has a real Ethernet connector which is great. I wish that the computer had a physical switch to turn off all radio devices for when you¡¯re on a plane. For the same money you can get a Dell Mini 10V, which has a 10.1" WIDESCREEN LCD and a 120GB Sata Hard drive. It also has a camera, card reader, etc. The only thing it lacks is bluetooth standard, but you can add it for $25. I own a Retail Computer Store and sell exclusively Dell Laptops (FUJITSU LifeBook M2010 laptop batteries), I was going to sell the Vostro A90's, but after using it myself I am purchasing the Mini 10v for me and my business partner and a couple extra to sell in the store. The A90 is a good netbook, but the Mini 10V is much better. Have a great day! Xp install with office and a few other progs leaves about 5gb free on the 8gb ssd. 8gb ssd read speed average is over 60 mb/s, with almost 0ms latency! Very snappy. Super easy to change ram and ssd if so desired. (Replacement battery for FUJITSU FPCBP216AP, 10.80 voltage, 2200 mAh, 3 cells, Li-ion FMVNBP173 Laptop Batteries) Very sturdy chassis, can be held with 1 hand gripping the palm rest. Super light. Battery life over 4 hours with plenty of web browsing and installing programs in XP. (dell WU946 notebook batteries) Great webcam quality for google video chat. Looks as good as latest iMac webcam in gchat. Sleek, all black look. I have had many people ask me, "what is that, a laptop? No way!" Keyboard is very good for the size class, but I rarely use the nonexistent F-keys. Right shift is easier to get used to than the Fn action for the back slash (DELL Studio 1535 laptop batteries ). I have large hands, so the letter keys could benefit from being slightly taller and still fit under the battery. Dell's track pad is okay; the mouse buttons should not be flanking the touch pad on either side a per some manufacturers. Blue tooth in Ubuntu works as easily as 802.11g. Ubuntu 8.0.4 works well (other than the dell kernel RAM restriction) and boots rather quickly off the 16GB mini-PCIe drive (Replacement battery for FUJITSU FPCBP208AP, 10.80 voltage, 6600 mAh, 9 cells, Li-ion Laptop Batteries). Not having XP presintalled means no Windows sticker to peel off of the handrest on top of the other two. All five wireless networks in range are detected with absolutely excellent reception. Make sure you know the specific type of wireless encryption your network uses (128 or 64 bit, hexidecimal, etc.) if applicable. As I have a 2GB SODIMM now in the machine I'll be installing Ubuntu 9 tomorrow, and perhaps Snow Leopard when comes out. Dual booting with XP on a 64GB miniPCIE drive seems like a perfect solution. Great little netbook for the price. Keyboard is a bit cramped but expected it for this size. Screen is very good for the price. Glossy cover gets covered with fingerprints. Loaded Win 7 RC on it with no problems (ACER UM09E36 computer batteries). Recognized hardware without an issue. May go back to Ubuntu to save space. Got 1GB memory upgrade so speed is good. I personally really like the trackpad better than my XPS laptop. Bluetooth and wireless have been flawless so far. Battery life has been very good.
